I notice this morning there were more than a dozen gibberish spam messages on the Board. While I know they will be deleted soon, I have a question for those in the know about such things.

How do spammers make money off these gibberish messages? Do they hope you will follow the link and buy a product sight-unseen? Does viewing the message alone bring some level of compensation to them?

I consider spamming to be like vandalism. I can't imagine how someone who soaps your windows or TPs your house makes money from it, and I'm equally baffled by the electronic version of vandalism.
