I noticed the same JFK-like excitement for Senator Obama when I was in Germany earlier this year.

You have to wonder why Germans have never taken the big step of supporting racial minority candidates in their own national elections, given how good the achievement of perceived equality makes everyone feel. (although I do not support Sen. Obama, I think it is great that the Democratic Party finally supported a Black candidate for President after years of talking about equal rights)
