Changes in the condition of a chip??

The Orleans roulette was obviously glued into a money chip/bolo/keychain fob at one time. When I got it (yes, I actually paid money for it because the lady who had it had access to some other chips that I wanted..and were actually desirable.. and I was trying to keep the possibility open) the inlay on one side of the chips was severely darkened. Most will say the sun/heat causes this. The other side of the chip was normal (except for the gouges and glue residue).
In any case, this chip, "normal" side up was been sitting on my porch banister in the heat/sun of the Las Vegas summer for 6 or 8 months or so. The inlay finally started to darken.

I picked up the faded Palms chip from a poker table. With the exception of the fading, it is in pretty good condition and still has the texture that it would have if new and uncirculated. It got me wondering if the faded condition was a result of a manufacturing "mistake" or if it was faded for other reasons. So, I got a chip of the same year (both queens if that somehow matters) and lack of wear and began to experiment.
The non-faded chip was:
Soaked in straight clorox for about 14 hours.
Run through the dishwasher.
Run through the washing machine.
Left in the Las Vegas Sun baking side by side with the Orleans chip for weeks.
Given a fairly good going-over with some low grit sand paper.

I know that NONE of this really makes any difference, but these things make me wonder.
Yes, Gene, I know I must have too much time on my hands.
Anyone care to give opinions as to what caused the Palms chip to fade without being worn? Anyone want to guess how much longer I need to leave the Orleans chip in the sun before the lighter side catches up with the dark side?
Anyone want to tell me to get a life?
