Ebay listing "identical" title issue

I just learned a lesson on Ebay the hard way and thought I'd share the information. I listed a bunch of items with the exact same title. When I did a search by a portion of the title, only one listing showed up. I called the support desk as was told that they sent out a message in July that "identical" listings will not come up in the search results unless the buyer goes to the bottom of the screen and clicks on the show identical listings link. Ebay identifies the listing as identical if the title, price and format (buy it now or auction) are the same from the same seller.

So if you listed six different lots of chips all reading, "lot of $1 chips" with the same price even though they all had different pictures and item descriptions, and the buyer does a search for "lot chips", they will only see one of your listings unless they do a further search. I did not know that you needed to adjust the title slightly for all of the listings to show.

I know most of the time, the titles are slightly different but I happened to have had the same item in different colors for sale so I just reused the title and listing and changed the picture. Lesson learned the hard way as my items were not selling because they were not being seen.

Thanks...did that immediately...
eBay gets away with it because
I'm sure they have a good (for all) reason.
