A Campaign Message on the Subject of Communication

(This is a re-print of the same message posted on the ccgtcc Message Board.)

So far, I seem to be the only openly announced prospective candidate for any Board position in the as-of-yet specified 2009 election. I say “prospective” only because while I have declared my candidacy, it remains that an actual candidate must be nominated and a second of that nomination must be made, once the Election is declared opened, i.e., during the Call for Nominations period.

While awaiting notification of that timeframe, I have decided to not lose any valuable campaigning time by sitting back and doing nothing while un-opposed (which could change at the drop of a hat).

Towards that end, I would like to share with the ccgtcc membership (and prospective members) that read this Message Board, my views on Communication and what my position is on communicating with the membership should I be elected as the Club’s next Secretary.

I think it is quite obvious to any reader here, that I am very active in the pursuit of communication. I post regularly, I read nearly everything posted and often post replies sharing with others what I know, what I think I know and from time-to-time stating that I don’t know but would like to find out, or will find out.

I am accessible to all, and receive more than my fair share of contacts from the readership here and I always strive to answer back or acquire information and post it for all to see. While I am human and occasionally make a mistake (over reacting, missing a message or hitting the “post message” button a little too quickly) it remains that I am always engaged, willing to respond and otherwise always there (or here).

I do not envision a scenario that should I be elected as the Club’s Secretary that my involvement with this tool of mass communication would subside or go away. In fact, it is my pledge to post on the Club's website a monthly “Secretary’s Report”, separate and apart from the quarterly “Secretary’s Report” in the Club’s magazine, of ccgtcc Secretary related activities, duties and functions that are happening or about to happen, in a more timely and frequent basis than awaiting publication in the printed medium.

However, not withstanding the requirements that certain information be provided to the membership via mailed media, I envision a greater utilization of the Internet (the Club’s website and most notably the Club’s Message Board) as a vehicle to push out information on a more immediate and timely basis of matters affecting the entire membership. Not as a replacement to mailing, but as an enhancement of sharing information with a greater number of members in a more timely manner.

Please understand, this is my commitment to the membership and it is NOT intended to be the position of others who might step-up to run for office, unless they too embrace the idea of greater communication to the membership. Additionally, this is my commitment in a capacity as being the Club Secretary and for those matters dealing with the Secretary's position alone. While I believe in the concept that the Board operates as a Team and the leader of that Team is the President, it is likely that in my open accessibility I might be asked matters that ought to be handled by the Team collectively or the Team Leader and in such instances my response will be along those lines, i.e., that is a BoD decision or I defer to the President, but nonetheless, I will respond!

Questions directed to me WILL NOT be left un-responded to on the Club’s Message Board for a period of time greater than 24-hours (where my on-line presence is seen elsewhere on the Internet) nor greater than 48-hours unless I am sick or physically not able to achieve Internet access.

I thank you for taking the time to read my message and respectfully request your support in my efforts to be elected Secretary of the ccgtcc in 2009, which will be a 2-year term.
