NCR, BankNote of the Day.....

Today’s note comes from the Republic of Romania; a Balkan Country that is bordered by Moldova to the east, Ukraine, Hungary & Black Sea to the north, Serbia to the west and Bulgaria to the south.

The note is a 1941 issue of the 1,000 Lei. The intricate artwork was done Nicolae Grigorescu. The front features two farm wives the one on the left is working with yarn with a child, the one on the right is harvesting and nursing a child in a farming background. The center contains the watermark of the head of Trajan with an olive branch. The back farm wives are again featured two with hoes over their shoulder and one picking fruit with a ladder. The National Bank of Romania appears in the border design at bottom center. It is a very fine example of European notes if middle century design and art. This note as others of this era does not contain security strips or UV markings. In UNCirculated condition this note carries a $6.50 book value. ENJOY
