That is an interesting point. I have no chips that have been newly (last 20 years), carved, scrimshawed or lasered.

However many times, chips carved 150 years ago were either recarved or redyed maybe 50 years later (100 years ago). The ivory carving companies advertized that redyeing was an option.

The tiger chip below started life as a 50. Parts of the original 50 are visible. I wish it remained a 50. The tiger chip is considered an antique carved chip. It was antique carved (maybe 100 years ago). However, it was recarved.

The orange 25 (Steve Passalacqua owns the rack) was redyed. The bright red 25 was not redyed. The difference is clear. However, the orange was redyed maybe 100 years ago. Does that make it fake. I think not.

They are hand-made. No 2 are absolutely identical
Then every piece in my ivory collection is unique.
