it is scheduled to launch May 2008. The Independence will join her two sister ships, Freedom and Liberty. These 3 ships are the largest cruise ships in the world. They surpass the Queen Mary 2 in tonnage by 6,600 tons and nearly 20% more passengers at 3,634. The new Genesis will be a new class of ship and will be huge 220,000 tons with over 5,000 passengers. Looks like RCCL is making a statement.
