NCR, BankNote of the Day.....

Today’s selection is a 50 year old note from French Equatorial Africa (Cameroon). It is a 50 Franc issued in 1957. French Equatorial Africa was made up from a group of four self governing dependencies: Middle Congo, Ubangi-Shari (part of what is now Cameroon), Chad, and Gabon. The French had little intent on territorial acquisition but rather to set up a few service stations to supply war ships to combat slave trade. In 1958 they voted to become autonomous republics within the French community and later attained full independence in 1960.

The front of the note has a native woman picking coffee beans from a coffee plant at the right. On the back are two men moving logs down the river in a logging operation. This note is in Very Fine condition and has a book value of $17.50. Often times on African notes the book value reflects a rather conservative price. ENJOY!!
