The final answer, of course, lies in each collector. It's a hobby. Collectors should collect what interests them. If variants interest you, collect them. If they don't, don't. It doesn't bother me if people want to ignore blatant differences or insist in having every miniscule variation. I don't collect what everyone else collects. I collect what interests me. The opportunity to specialize in so many different ways is just one of the things that makes this hobby so great. Enjoy it however you wish.
