NCR, BankNote of the Day.....

Today’s note is from Tunisia, it is a 1965 issue 1 Dinar. My example is a rather bad one but it’s the only one I have to show. The Dinar was introduced in 1960, having been established as a unit of account in 1958. It replaced the franc at a rate of 1000 francs = 1 Dinar. Like many countries it is a criminal offence in Tunisia to import or export Dinar (they must be converted prior to departure).

The note has President Habib Bourguiba at right and as watermark. (During the time Bourguiba was president, education was a high priority. Bourguiba also made an innovative difference within the Arab and Islamic world concerning women rights. He prohibited polygamy and he legalized divorce. He also raised the age at which girls could marry to 17 years of age. Bourguiba was considered very westernized and liberal in his policy making.) At left front is an aerial view of a factory. The back has a mosaic of a man on a chariot drawn by four horses at the center. This mosaic is one I have always liked. The book value of this note is $3.00 in the condition you see (UNCirculated would be $100.00, reason you want to keep your notes protected) ENJOY!! OK Gary... do your stuff! vbg
