slight correction: lockout

The union had called for a strike today at Motor City Casino, but management beat them to the punch. So technically it's a lockout, not a strike.

As far as I know, the union has not called a strike date for the other two Detroit casinos. Negotiations there continue. The Motor City lockout has sent mild shockwaves through the labor community, particularly after the UAW's "successful" mini-strikes against two automakers in the past couple weeks. In this one instance, perhaps momentum has shifted to management's favor.

Although there is a lockout (and even if there was a strike), the casinos could stay open with management taking over the dirty work. This according to the state gaming control board.
