Everyone, I understand about the flap over the La Rue chip et al. However, I also believe in what some have said about being knowlegable. I mean, I know that there is probably a lot of a chip out there, but someone who doesnt know about all that survived would claim the catalog value when trying to sell it. So in my opinion, if there is 15X more La Rue club $1's out there than otherwise reported previously, then $40-50.00 would be about right ($700.00/15), making it possible for more to have a copy in their collection. If anything involves value, blame some of these casinos making so-called LE's. Some casinos have done what the sports card industry did, make a lot of "Special" chips,as the sports card companies did with cards. This is the reason why I no longer collect sports cards. Almost making sure every collector had 1 it seems at times, as they know the demand is there. The smart ones will make a low mintage "chase" cards/chips, which is good fun.

On a side note:
At 1 time, a Hawaiian $20.00 from WWII was once RARE also, until someone found over $10,000 worth of them. Same goes for any other coin, except maybe coins which have a very low mintage. Someone could hoard a bunch and then die, and the hoard is discovered, and prices drop. This sort of thing can happen in any type of collecting: Coins, notes, stamps.. As I state this, however, I am not taking anyones side in this controversy. I believe collecting should be fun, and profit should be 2nd. Dont buy something just because its valuable, buy it because you LIKE it. All I know is that I am happy to have had the opportunity to add a $1. La Rue to my collection.
