Re: NCR--Anyone familiar with...

Halstead's Blackjack Inn??

Saw it at the intersection of highways 6 and 318.

Then it was down to Searchlight.

This used to be the Oasis Club

This is Maria. She loves the history of Searchlight, though she's more into the non-gaming than the gaming part. She also loves to talk people and hear their stories.

This is Maria's shop, and here's what she could tell us about it. According to Sandy Sandquist's son, this opened as the Ace Hi Club and it was built by Willie Martello. (Maria hasn't confirmed the Ace Hi story from any other sources). Then it was Sandy's Club.
After Sandy's, in the mid-60's, Warren and Verlie Doing bought the club and they ran it as a bar. For a short time it operated as the Searchlight Nugget, while the new (current) Nugget was being built in the early 1970's.
Warren Doing died several years ago, but Verlie still owns this building, as well as the Searchlight Nugget.

Next time you pass through Searchlight, stop and swap stories with Maria. While you're at it, check out her shop...she might have a casino item, or some art that you need. grin
