S. A. Poker Star Charged In Probe - ncr

"S. A. poker star?" I wondered. Wow, who the heck is a poker star from South America? Clicked on the the link and found a spot on the planet more provincial than here in Portland OR.! vbg San Antonio...Ohhh! http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/metro/stories/MYSA100607.01A.Lee-Charges.3605744.html

From the article:

...became a household name in August 2006 after placing sixth in the World Series of Poker's main event in Las Vegas — the world's most prestigious poker tournament. During the tournament, he was featured wearing a shirt with "San Antonio" emblazoned across the front.

Look, I know who the 5th place winner in 2000 was but come on, 6th place 2006? "It's not about the money baby, I want to be the next Paul Wasicka."

The actual charge was bookmaking and the actual operation couldn't have been dreamed up by The Daily Onion News. These guys arrested set up a web site and get this, pretended to be an offshore entity! Oh yeah, I don't want to bet illegal locally, I want to send my money to some island via the World Wide Web! Perhaps off the coast of S.A.?

The household name has a pretty good defense though, he made all the cash they found selling diamonds and importing gold from Mexico. No hint in the article about that other Texas household word, cahoonzas.

"It's not about the money baby, I want to be the next Dutch Boyd."
