Red & Black At The Nevada Club

Red and black? Nope, not roulette, just Elvis' favorite colors. Messing around with some Reno stuff and made this scan. Here's a little Nevada Club roulette factoid though, the house used to let LeVere Redfield spin the wheel his ownself back in the day. One of the few single 0 roulette wheels in Reno. As you probably know, Redfield was an eccentric Reno millionaire. Had his own chips, those small crown half pies but he only used the blue/orange ones. Apparently Fitz and Redfield had their own agreeement on the table value of these chips. Redfield had a real predilection for silver and Nevada Club used to pay him off in silver dollars. When he won. Club security would take them to Redfield's house and throw them down a coal shute. Indeed, when he died they found in excess of 400,00 silver dollars hidden in the basement, many new and many desirable. Coins aren't my field but I gather that the find really reverberated in the collecting community and "Redfield Dollars" are still a sales attribute today.

Uh, where was I? At any rate this redbird came along a little after the half pies and are slightly less numerous than the Redfield cartwheels. vbg Kind of takes my Nevada Club collection to another level actually. Noticed a lot of very interesting Nevada Club activity on eBay today. Some very nice Las Vegas pieces at auction and that "rdrock1" guy is up to $113 on a Nevada Club chip...from Modesto, CA.
