Reno Dreaming (w/scans!)

Probably not going to make Jim Munding's Reno show next month. Had a pretty goood time there last year. Read a pretty silly post recently about this show. Geez, chips and chipper friends... still sounds nice to me. Stopped in Reno on my way home from the show in August and took some pictures. Last day of Hot August Nights when I got there but most of the crowd had split, found this coupe at Crumley's old place: Didn't run across my "Nevada Club Tales" friend on the floor at Siena this trip. However, there is this one cocktail server over there that's my kind of gal. Blond, tall and athletic, she waved at me across the casino and mouthed those three little words that always make my heart skip a beat, "Gin and tonic?" Sigh. Wandered on back to my digs over at Fitz's place and found another rodder ready to trailer his pride home. Old Reno used to be Zimba's '69-'72 before it was Old Reno. Nice chips if only from a couple of otherwise unremarkable joints. Someone was searching for this chip the other day, sorry, nfs. sad Hard to scan well but good luck anyway. Reminds me, I got my first Zimba at Jim's show last year, Bud Meyers dropped the thing in shirt pocket when I wasn't looking. What was it that smart aleck posted about the Reno show? Oh yeah, guess I just got suckered big time. Good chips and good memories = Loser! Or maybe not. vbg
One thing you can do when you're in Reno is hunt down your favorite bygone joints, just get a bunch of addresses out of TCR and start walking. Lincoln Fitzgerald bought The Silver Dollar Club and incorporated it into the NE corner of his Fitzgerald's Club when he built it in the mid-70's. The place used to sit right at the foot of the arch. Harley's name was off the sign by then but this chip sure puts your eye out, doesn't it? Not getting any cheaper either, I was really surprised at the winning bid on one of these at this year's club auction.

Up in the room by now. You can either look out a Fitzgerald's window down on the roof of Ernie Primm's old place or perhaps you'll be on the side I was this last visit. Eldorado here with Circus rising just beyond. Circus is pretty nice, Jim Fredrickson had a chip show there once and offered good room rates. I've got that rather notorious Reno Hilton chip from that show in the binders. Another good chip and another good memory. Go to Reno in October, bet you'll like it just fine.
