Gene, if this helps any, just one catalog -- I have a gambling supply catalog from the San Francisco Card Co. (they call themselves "S.F. Card Co.")., from about the 1960's. They have only one mold shown in it -- what they call the "2 square diamond check." It is this mold:

I'm quite certain it is a clay check. If it isn't, I'll get back to you.
