Gene, you are thinking of...

...Hans "Tuna" Lund who came in 2nd to Mansour Matloubi in the 1990 WSOP main event. Tuna's parents own a couple of gold mines. He dropped out of sight in the late 90's as he was going through a messy divorce. Tuna has started playing again in the last couple of years.

For a few years (1994, 1995 & 1996) he was buying up all the LE's he could get his hands on. He would pay runners to stand in line at the Horseshoe when they released the $2.50 add on chips every year. He told them to keep getting back in line until the cage ran out of chips.

When Barley's had their grand opening in 1996 I was in there waiting for them to release the chips. As I was walking around I spotted Tuna leaning against the wall near the cage. I walked over to him & asked him how many he was going to get. He said as many as he could. rofl
