Re: How about this Merry Go Round Match!

That's a beautiful book of matches, Don! grin

You said it might have just been a bar with a couple of slot machines. I wondered about that, so I pulled out a couple of books...

Rick Olsen's Reno dice book shows 2 pairs of Merry Go Round dice (both listed as R-9, and valued at $151-$199).

Fuller's Index, and Dwayne Kling's Biggest Little City both say it was licensed for slots, craps, 21 and roulette.

grin Kling goes on to say that the bar was set on a carousel mechanism, and when activated the bar stools would revolve around the center part of the bar.

Quoting Kling "...Allen Roberts was granted the first gaming license in March 1946 for one craps game, one roulette game, and two 21 games plus twelve slot machines."
"...Herman Smith in 1950 and 1951 for one craps game, one 21 game, one roulette game, and twenty slot machines."
"...Logsdon was licensed in Augst 1953 and for a short time had Bruce Gandy as his partner; however, in July 1956 when Logsdon was cited by the state to show cause why his license should not be revoked for improper operation of a 21 game, he was the sole licensee.
On July 31, 1956, the Gaming Control Board recommended revocation of the slot and gaming license, and on August 1, 1956, the State Gaming Commission Concurred."

Must have been an all-cash operation, then.
