Michael:

Slot machines were removed from military bases mid-way through the Vietnam war due to graft and corruption. At that time, most overseas military members were paid in script (military payment certificates - also known as MPC). No us bills or coins were premitted as a way to try to stop black marketing. Thus, "change" was in the form of 5c, 10c, 25c and 50c notes in addition to $1, $5, and later $10 and $20 notes. For any machines that required a coin to operate, including slot machines, tokens were made for this use. What often happen is that the club manager would order two sets of tokens, one using funds from the club, and another set for himself that he then used to pay the slot machines. Just for Vietnam, there must be over 1,000 different tokens that were issued. Most are 5c, 10c and 25c tokens with a few 50c & $1.00 tokens as well.

When slot machines were re-authorized, the used US coins (5c, 10c, 25c). Most clubs, even the ones in larger bases, at most only have about 10 - 20 machines total and the "jackpots" amount to all of $50 tops. No TITO's as of this date. They are just getting around to putting in bill adapters so they do not have to go to all of the trouble of making and counting change all of the time.

I have a good selection of military related slot tokens in stock, some of which are listed on my web site.

A few locations also had table games with chips, but these were few and far between. While I do not have any chips for sell from military locations, I am in the process of documenting these items on my web site.

A link to the last is below.

Hope this information is of some help.
