NCR: Got a soldier in your family tree?

If you've got an ancestor who was in the military or registered for military service you may be able to find out more about them at ancestry.com

They've just put a bunch of military records online and are allowing free searches through Memorial Day (next Monday for those not familiar with our holidays). Just go to www.ancestry.com and click on the banner on the right side of the screen, or one of the military search categories. There are draft records, service records for all wars the U.S. was involved in, military cemetary records and more.

With about 5 minutes searching I was able to print out a copy of my wife's grandfather's World War I draft registration form and we were able to learn what his middle name was and his exact birth date--information we didn't have before.

This family tree stuff is pretty fun once you get rolling. There are always new facts to add to your database and new branches of family to add. grin Write to me if you're interested in getting started but don't know how to.
