When I "borrow" a high denomination chip off the table to scan for my A.C. Catalog ... I usually call the pit boss over and tell him/her that I want to purchase the chip as a birthday gift for my brother. I've never been refused. After I've scanned the chip, it is usually returned to the cage the next day ... or perhaps the next weekend. I've never had a problem cashing it in either, although as Rich Hanover has posted, I'm usually asked if I have any outstanding markers.
