I just glanced over the spinrite website briefly and it looks similar to a freeware program that I use at work quite a bit called BartPE http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/. It is used to build a light-weight, CD based, Windows OS that runs from the CD drive. It can be used for registry repair, data recovery, imaging hard drives, etc. and you can slipstream in other programs like Symantec Ghost, Nero CD burning software, Firefox, plus drivers to give it even more functionality.
