The match play chips he refers to in the article were hot stamped orange chips with four charcoal inserts:

I was so green to gambling that I didn't even notice the difference between that chip and the house chip, which has an inlay, until they took the chip from us when we won our first bet! We bought a book on craps during our car ride to Vegas, and tried to learn how to play on the way. I guess we learned enough. We made enough on the free chips to pay for the entire hotel bill and two days of breakfast buffets for three at Caesars Palace (a very nice buffet at the time). Here's the $5 house chip, so you can see how overwhelmed we were by the whole Vegas experience. And we loved every minute!! vbg
