In the computer lab where I work, we have a lot of two year old LCD monitors that are going bad while at the same time, we also have quite a few five year old CRT monitors that are still doing great. At home I have one of the first 15 inch LCD monitors ever made that is left running 24/7/365 and it is doing fine!

So it's been my observation that the failure rate is higher for LCDs but I wouldn't trade go back to a CRT for anything! Besides, LCDs have gotten down right inexpensive!
