As far as I know..........
In Response To: PLATINUM COLLECTION ()

The collection was first announced 'for sale' around the time of our club convention in 2005. I believe some of the tokens were on display at the convention.
Publicity for the sale, and the construction of the catalog, was handled, amongst others by Howdy Herz and James Campiglia.
The collection was then offered for sale on ebay as a single lot in October 2005, with a starting bid of $1m. The auction attracted one bid and sold.
Although Im aware of the identity of seller and buyer, Im not sure it was ever made public, and is not really relevant here anyway. Its what happened afterwards that you are asking about.
Now for the 'as far as I know' part, the buyer was a token collector who had no interest in the chips. The chips were very quickly sold on and ended up in the hands of David Sarles and Mike Christensen, who arbitrarily split them between themselves, by 'album'.
Cant remember for sure, but it may have been Mike took Vegas and David everything else, or it may have been 'A-K', 'L-Z' etc. Something like that.
They took possession of the chips just a couple of days before the Palms chip show in 2005, and displayed them for sale at that show.
I was fortunate to have had a 24 hour pre-warning of this and I believe I was one of the first people to go through the albums, before anything had been removed. I purchased about 30 chips and was also 'gifted' several pieces for my own collection.
The sale of the chips by both parties has continued since then, at the 2006 convention, 2006 Palms show, probably at other shows, and also via ebay.
Some ebay offerings will rightly mention 'from the Platinum collectiomn' as it establishes provenance for many rare items. A lot of the chips were placed in holders printed with 'Platinum Collection' stickers and have been offered for sale at shows and on ebay in those holders.
As was pointed out, the entire collection was presented on a CD prior to the sale.
