I dont think its done purposely.
I enquired about having a poker set made for someone (no casino names or anything) but with edge spots 'lined up'
They said they couldnt do it because of the manufacturing process. Faces are printed separately from edges.
If you look at Jim's scan you will see the placement is random. The odd one will line up but most wont.
