Re: Jim Follis - make sure you read this one also

Jim

I brought this back up to the top of the bb in the hope you wont miss it as you did Gene's post the other day.

I had avoided the recent debates as I had no wish to re-hash old stories but it seems that others have done so anyway, so here goes:-

For the record. I, and others, were informally asked if we could try and 'mediate' some settlement between yourself and Josh, after your official complaint had placed the club in a 'no win situation'. Part of the problem was you had not been clear in "what would make you happy".
When I posed that question to you, you responded with a list of realistically unreasonable demands potentially even involving myself and other club members. At that point I realised you was never going to reach any agreement. I understand that shortly after that point the club determined that there was nothing misleading about the sales post/auction in question in any case.

Now as far as I am concerned, that particular episode is water under the bridge. However, I felt it necessary to set the record straight as your recent posts are heading in exactly the same direction with respect to what you dislike about fantasy, home poker, counterfeit and reproduction chips.

When I put together what I read on these bb's, both recently and from some 12 months ago, I read that you feel there is no place in this hobby for "any of the above". At various times you seem to have encompassed designers, manufacturers, sellers & buyers with the same broad brush.
I have a number of issues with this. Firstly, 99% of the buyers of this material are not in fact 'in our hobby'. They are in a completely separate market. That market is in fact far larger than the chip collecting market.
There are probably 100 million people worldwide using chips you 'dont care for' to play home poker with. I think that justifies calling them 'poker chips'.
Now when you look at Josh, or at me for that matter, selling genuine Paul-Son, Chipco or ASM chips, it is fully necessary to distinguish that these are 'casino quality chips' to justify the price differential between them and the billions of chinese chips flooding the market.
There seems to be a complete misunderstanding here, with the belief that adverts are designed to 'fool the chip collector'.

Here is a bit of useless info for you grin
At least 2 of the 5 current BOD members collect chips like the ones in question.
At least 2 of the likely 2007 BOD members also collect them.
I can only tell you that as they are my customers grin

Now anyone reading this has to realise that while I am not against any 'non-casino' chips (being a collector myself), the fact that I maintain the clubs fakes page demonstrates I fully support the need to 'educate' as best as possible.
Even if I, and everyone else here, was against these chips, there is absolutely no way we could do anything about it.

I saw that Gene had posed some questions that remain unanswered. Even though I have not asked the same questions, I realise that I am looking for responses from you not dissimilar to those Gene may have expected.

Jim, Im afraid I will not be supporting your bid for election. As I explained to you face to face, its not because of the issues of these chips and your or my feelings towards them, its purely because of the way you went after Josh to try and make an example of him.

Now you dont have to comment on this at all grin but I really was curious whether the outcome of your claim was what made you decide to run for office anyway?

Regardless of all the above, best of luck in the election, and your ongoing work for the club is appreciated by everyone!
