Health UPDATE (NCR)

We just returned, yesterday eveing from CINN (Chicago Institute of Neurosugery & Neuro Research). While they are still being very cautious in what they say, they did state that the swelling of the brain has gone down. The physical size of the tumor which was 5mm has been reduced a fair amount. There was no mention of the actual state of the cancer itself. My thoughts are it is still way to early to tell, seeing as how the Oncology doctor has already said that there would be approx. another 5 months of treatments starting mid December. We left there today very upbeat. The last visit also brought a lift in attitude, but not like todays. You could tell in the Doctor’s response’s today, that his thoughts were more positive then supportive this time. Denise asked about the chances of removing it, if it continues to shrink. He was very quick and very clear to make it known that we are a very long way from having that discussion. Portions of the last 14 weeks have been living hell, with the radiation / chemo. On the 13th , I see the Oncology Doctor to discuss the next round of chemo which may be 3 to 4 times stronger then the original dose. While it would be very easy to complain about doing another 5 months of chemo, you get a different view from this side of the fence, and at least I have the opportunity to do the chemo. They are reducing some of the medication that I am on that is basically a steroid. This should help with the insulin control which has been a major issue , and hopefully allow a few pounds to go away also. Glucose testing @ 2am, 7am noon, 5 pm and 10 pm is really taking a toll. (say nothing about the fact I look like a dart board).

7 weeks ago when I knew when the treatment break was going to be, I made plans to fly out east (NH) to see family, knowing that, the best time would be between treatments. Had no idea at that time what the trip would mean. After yesterday, maybe we can look forward to going back in June, and seeing the new (1st) grandchild, due early June.

To all who have offered their thoughts, prayers, assistance, I (we) thank you very much. We pray every day for those who are in the same or similar fights, and our thoughts are with those who have recently left us.

Still upbeat and sucking air one breath at a time.

David (will return on 12/11/06)
