NCR - The Digital Age

I recently mentioned that we were finally dumping our analog home theater and going fully digital and high definition... and at the same time I wanted to integrate the whole house stereo into the system.

Modern technology being wonderful we were able to eliminate a CD player, DVD player, and VCR in favor of a single combo unit that added DVD recording and plays MP3s etc. We finally dumped the tape deck and the audio receiver is also gone (kept the phonograph.. call me nastalgic).

Eliminating components and using single digital cables to deliver sound/video .. it really makes things much easier... UNTIL...

...you realize that this is a 13.1 audio system with 27 speaker wires finding there way to the receiver. The wall plate for the remote speakers has 16 separate terminals front and back which is 32 separate connections to keep straight before I ever get to the switch box which is necessary to handle so many speakers.

With all this technology, why is it that I can run a single wire for sound between components but not speakers? There has to be a better way..oh well... the nightmares of speaker wire monsters will end soon I suppose...
