Joe, You've Got To Be Kidding

The officers are not paid for any of their services. They are volunteers. A free room at the convention for the officers is quite a bargain for the membership.

My son is involved with the ALPCA (Automobile License Plate Collectors Association). A club with approximately 3000 active members. Some of the officers are paid. A total payroll of about $35,000 per year. Do you think that the "free" rooms are worth $35,000?

Also, when convention room blocks are negotiated the contract normally provides for 1 comp night per x number of room nights rented. From what I'm told, there is no reduction in room rates for not taking the comp rooms.

Joe, don't you think that a few comp room nights is a better deal than paying salaries? I would be interested in hearing your thoughts.
