4th of july

I just finished reading the "Casino News Magazine", put out by Coast to Coast. There was an editorial on the lack of a fireworks disply on the 4th on the strip.

THis brought back the memory of my 4th on the strip this past summer. I had stayed in Vegas a couple of extra days (an expensive prospect) just to see the big famous firewoks displays.

I made arrangements to get together with Tyrus to watch the fireworks and use my free tickets to see George Wallace (great show by the way).

Just before dusk, Tyrus and I found a good spot to watch the skies from (just outside the Flamingo). Crowds were thick everywhere we could see, and very quickly we were locked into our location.

We then stood there until we positvely had to go or miss the show. Apparently security, concerned with all the exits being blocked, were telling the crowds that there was no show.

The editorial suggested that the hotels didn't do anything because they didn't want to 'offend' visitors from outside the US. All I can say is there were several foreign persons trying to see the fireworks (I talked to a few).

The thing that aggrevated me the most is earlier in the day, I was told by reps at the casino that there would be fireworks. I was extremely disappointed, especially after all the years of hearing and seeing all the great stuff that Vegas does for the holidays.
