If you are talking about clay chips with drill holes filled, I have yet to see a repair on the rim that was not visible to the naked eye. However, if the drill hole was through the inlay and replacement inlays were applied, you could only tell by removing an inlay or xray.
A large part of Whalen's work is making brass core chips, where a customer supplies him a genuine brass core chip and he removes the plastic and replaces it with his own. As far as I know, most, BUT NOT ALL of these are done in a marbelised effect like these 3.
I dont have too much of a problem with those. However, a lot of people dont seem to have a problem with ANY of his brass core work. I have a problem with chips like these two below. They could be passed into the market as prototypes, errors or never issued chips. Just imagine a $1 Harveys like the one above turned into orange, or a $2 turned into green. A $10 chip becomes a $400 chip. I could probably tell the difference because Im familar with the materials used, but, he may have changed the material. He could be using real PMSC plastic from other chips and it may be impossible to tell.
