Clarification, or Not

Hmmmm, have I answered my own question now without realizing it? grin Here's the other side and I'll attempt to fully describe what I'm seeing in Real Life. I've included the Nevada mold to try and confuse myself further.

Used chip for sure. The inital scan made me believe I was showing a cancellation as the same design is stamped on both sides. I figured a floorsweeper would be a new condition chip from extra/obsolete manufacturer stock. It is a different design than what you usually find on a stamped cancellation. The cancellation I'm showing with this post is from the other side and is more lightly struck. Fresh foil on the overstamp but neither overstamp matches the quality of the hotstamps we'd expect a manufacturer to ship.

So now I'm looking at these two chips and wondering. vbg Do you suppose that the Bud Jones Company had some of these H&C chips on hand to use for color matching for the Nevada Mold issue and just stamped them to keep them from walking off? Not so apparent in the scan but the colors are the same. Perhaps the mundane is the correct answer. BJ stamped theirs while the obsoletes just ended up buried or sold off to ladies card clubs or stored in the rafters or ?

NOTE TO NEW COLLECTORS! A FLOORSWEEPER is a chip that a manufacturer uses as Don referenced as a test mule for hotstamp setup. Mostly you'd expect to find a new chip used for this as the manufacturer usually had a small amount of overstock left from one order or another. They would throw the extra chip into the stamping device to set correct pressure and clearances etc. Upon stamping, this chip would be discarded maybe even thrown on the floor to be swept up later.
