NCR Banknote of the Day....

Today's selection comes from a small island in the Indian Ocean. The Republic of Maldives is an archipeligo of about 2000 small coral islands located in the northern Indian Ocean 417 miles southwest of Ceylon (Shri Lanka). The people were visited by Arab traders and converted to Islam. After much harrasment from Portuguese raiders they placed themselves under the suzerainty of Ceylon and later became a self-governing protectorate of Britian before becoming a republic in 1953.

The note today is a 1998 issue 10 Rufia (Roof e' uh). With design into the borders the front depicts coconut clusters and a sailing ship, the back depicts a typical village scene. Printer: Thomas de La Rue London. Note: Because of the constant high humidity, earlier issues were much thicker to hold up to the moisture. This note has a book value of $3.00 UNC. ENJOY

10 Maldive Rufiyaa = 0.79365 US Dollar
10 US Dollar (USD) = 126.000 Maldive Rufiyaa (MVR)
