Jim B has just informed me that in the case of the chips I am comparing above, there was no deliberate reduction or absence of the brass flecks, so we cant use any such apparent appearance as a measure. In any event, the production of unweighted chips would actually have cost more than weighted ones.

However, Jim did add that he sought to save money because he had originally given Borland a very low price not knowing that such large quantities and so many different chips would be ordered. To make them cheaper, he simplified the inserts and made them more uniform on all the re-issues, as I have also discussed.

Jim said Borland didnt really care what the inserts were as long as he got the chips grin
