Firefox is recommended for a bit better security than Internet Explorer. As with any software be sure to check for updates periodically since there are always vulnerabilities that are discovered in even the best sofware. Thunderbird is a companion mail agent that can be used along with Firefox and would take the place of Outlook Express, again with better security.
