A few words about PaulSon's starburst...

hot-stamp chips.

Although I am certain that others have additional information, I thought I would try a response.

I believe that PaulSon had starburst hat-stamped chips for sale at their retail stores for around 80 cents each. They were sold as chips for home gaming sets and since they have no casino name on them, they are considered as "generics" to chip collectors. As generics, they have no real value beyond their retail pricing.

So, for collectors, they are not worth very much, but for home gaming set enthusiasts they may have a bit more value, up to $1.25 each, if new.

Pictured here are several PaulSon starburst chips. The top two rows are heavily worn chips. The wear can be explained as possibly being used in a real casino as a roulette chip, or possibly in a cardroom. But then again they may have been heavily used in home gaming! Notice that two of these chips are diamond mold chips, which are not PaulSon's (to my knowledge) but the same starburst hot-stamp is used (interesting).

The third row is of four unused chips and the bottom row shows three chips were the starburst was used to cancel chips.

The red one (on the right) was a Silver Saddle (CA) .25 cent chip. The middle one was probably a practice chip at PaulSon in that it has a hot-stamped "PAN" that is overstruck with a "BC", and then overstruck with the smaller starburt cancellation. The reverse of this chip also has the starburst, "Las Vegas, NEV." twice and "50¢".

Anyway, the PaulSon starbursts probably have more value to a gaming set enthusiast than to a chip collector.

I hope this helps.

Jim
