Tod Sloan was the most famous jockey of his time (1893 to 1900).

The present day racing position jockeys use is attributed to Tod Sloan. Before him, jockeys sat back in the saddle (or at least not close to the horse's head).

Tod Sloan was called the "Yankee Doodle Dandy" (from which the Cagney movie of the same name was derived. In the movie Tod Sloan was called little Johnny Jones. There was a scene in the movie in which Cagney was pesenting his idea for the play, he actually named Tod Sloan as the jockey)
