NCR - Buyer Beware

I recently ordered Cox Digital Cable because under a bundle deal it wasn't going to cost anything. This month, the bill shows up with two pages of pro-rated adjustments etc and buried in there was a $75 misc equipment charge. Huh?

E-mail Cox and they tell me that this is for a modem that I failed to return to them related to a service call almost three years ago.

Here's the last e-mail sent to them:

>>> We do not make up charges and hope you do not notice them.

Really? So almost three years after a service call you just slap a big charge on an invoice without any explanation whatsoever and you see nothing at all wrong with that?

>>> Both modems are shown as being added to the account onthe same day 8/23,

Now ask yourself. Does that make any sense at all?

>>>the tech added a test modem to the account to see if the modem was the problem or not.

That's correct, he did.

>>>When your purchase modem was added, was the Cox test modem every returned?

Think carefully about this. The modem is diagnosed as the problem. I agree to purchase a new one. The tech removes the test modem and installs the new one. Do you think that maybe.. just maybe.. the tech took his test modem with him? Under what weird Cox logic would he leave me with two modems?

What a load of crap. It's just a big coincidence that this bogus charge shows up years later buried in an invoice where a new service was added.

I wonder how many folks they get to just pay these things without question?

Turtles don't need cable.
