I ended up getting a very good parking space just about in front of the entrance to South Coast about 20 minutes before the fireworks started. About 10 minutes into the fireworks I was able to just walk into the casino. I picked up all the chips I needed at the cage & then walked over to check out the 8 table poker room. Nothing special there as it looks like they just threw it together at the last minute.

I then walked over to the sports book & as I was checking that out alarms went off. A woman then announced that it was not a test & told everyone to evacuate the casino. I knew she was serious when the sports book started to close down & lock up the betting windows.

As I was walking out I did smell smoke. Once I got to my car, a couple of guys were headed towards the casino & I told them that they would not be able to get in. They then showed me a couple of pictures they had taken of the smoke from the fire on the roof. At that point it was out, but there must have been at least 20 fire trucks that make it to the South Coast. As I was heading home, driving north on Las Vegas Blvd, the other side of the street was like a parking lot for miles. Those heading over to check out the South Coast were in for a bit of a wait.
