Some interesting facts on Tinian Island:

Tinian Island (one of the Mariana islands) was where two planes were launched from that changed the face of history. On August 6th 1945, a B-29 called the "Enola Gay" set off from Tinian Insland to drop the first Atomic Bomb (called little boy) on Hiroshima.

On August 9th, the B-29 blockstar left Tinian with it's payload. It's initial target was the city of Kokura, which was obscured by clouds. The plane then went to the secondary target, and proceeded to drop the second atomic bomb on Nagasaki.

The following day, August 10th, Emperor Hirohito ended the war.

In 1976, Congress approved the mutually negotiated Covenant to Establish a Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) in Political Union with the United States. The CNMI Government adopted its own constitution in 1977, and the constitutional government took office in January 1978. The Covenant was fully implemented on November 3, 1986, pursuant to Presidential Proclamation no. 5564, which conferred United States citizenship on legally qualified CNMI residents.
