On antique poker chips, because they are so brittle, and so prone to breakage, you could require insurance. The choice is yours on including it automatically in the shipping cost, or to say it is required, or if you just want to send it insured. Of course the best thing to do is to make sure you package the very fragile chip in a way that insures safe delivery. Bottom line... as hard as it is to swallow, you just didn't package it well enough.

Maybe you'll feel better knowing we've all had this happen. Consider it one of life's little lessons.

As for responsibility, the honorable seller will take the hit. Sure you can take the stand that they didn't insure it....however, that's not how the honorable chip seller conducts business. Just consider it a small cost of business. Feel lucky it was of small value.
