Question: can I load my old Microsoft Works program disc and open older files on my computer that may be Works?

I have a Gateway DS Profile 4XL with all the whistles and bells. I'm running Windows XP Home edition 5.1 with the 2nd package (whatever) installed.

A lot of my older files that I transferred when I bought this one three years ago were in Microsoft Works version 4.5a and they will not open up. In cleaning up my study (?) I found my old Works program disc.
