Re: Phyllis, God Love Ya
In Response To: Re: Phyllis, God Love Ya ()

I don't know why this remembrance just popped into my head as I was reading this thread, because this nis the first time I have thought about it in ages......maybe it has something to do with what is "proper" to say, or maybe it is just because the kid in the joke had such a cute misunderstanding that it reminded me of......

Two years ago, my much loved father-in-law passed away in a hospital at 3:00 AM with my wife at his side. I still remember getting the call, and waiting the few long hours until 7:00 AM when my son (At the time, 8) and daughter (at the time, 6) would wake up and I would have to tell them the terrible news.

I sat them both in the family room, and, through tears, explained to them that heir grandfather had died. I encouraged them to ask any questions they might have. "What happens next?", asked my son, and I explained to him about what a wake was and that they will see Grandpa's body if they wanted to but that what they will see is no longer really Grandpa, because his body is now in Heaven. I saw a slightly scared, puzzled look on my daughters face......"Dad?", she said............."What honey", I replied.................."What are they going to do with the head????".........
