Another official reply from ebay ...

... after I reported a similar email received to spoof@ebay.com
.

Hello,

Thank you for writing to eBay regarding the email you received.

We reviewed your report and found that although the message you received was made to appear as if it had been sent by an eBay user, it was not.
Generally, individuals send messages of this nature hoping that the recipient will click on the link to "reply" or "view the item" that leads to a fraudulent sign in page designed to harvest your User ID and password. This practice is commonly known as "spoofing".

If you have any doubt about whether an email message is from eBay, please forward it to spoof@ebay.com. Do not respond to it or click on any of the links in the email message. In addition, for faster processing we ask that you do not change the subject line or the text of the suspicious email in any way. If you believe that you may have already given your sensitive information to someone pretending to be eBay, you should take action to protect your identity. We have an eBay Help page with valuable information regarding the steps you should take to protect yourself further.

To help the eBay community to better protect themselves from fake eBay and PayPal Web sites, we have developed a new feature for the eBay Toolbar called "Account Guard". Account Guard includes an indicator of when you are on an eBay or PayPal Web site, buttons to report fake eBay Web sites, and a password notification feature that warns you when you may be entering your eBay password into an unverified site.

To learn more about the eBay Toolbar with Account Guard, open a new browser and type www.ebay.com/ebay_toolbar into the address bar. Note that eBay will never send you an email that includes a download as an attachment or a link that goes to a page with a download.

The expansion of My Messages is now complete. Now youll be able to confirm whether an email that appears to be from eBay is legitimate, because all account-related messages from eBay will be in your My Messages Inbox. From a safety perspective, the bottom line is this, If the email affects your eBay account, it's in My Messages.

To review eBay's new tutorial about Spoof Emails, please click on the help link located at the top of all eBay pages. Once the help window appears, click on the link to eBay's Security Center located on the left hand side of the page. From the Security Center page you will find a variety of safety related links. On the right hand side you will see a link to "Protect yourself from spoof emails".

eBay Home page > Help > Security Center > Protect yourself from spoof emails

If you have clicked on any links, as a security precaution, it's a good idea to keep your virus scanner up to date with the most recent virus definitions. If you do not have a virus scanner, you can run a free virus scan on your computer at:

Again, thank you for reporting this matter and for your help in keeping
eBay a fun and safe place to trade.

Regards,
