The Death of Slot Tokens - RIP

Most of you know that many casino's are no longer using slot tokens. The casino's pay off with little slips of paper. What amazes me are the sheer numbers of casino's that are doing away with tokens. Soon, I fear, no casino will use tokens. Long gone will be the days when you could hear the clang, clang, of tokens hitting the trays. That will be a sad day indeed.

To the best of my knowledge, there will be no new Route Company Tokens this year. If I am wrong someone please let me know. I believe there were only two Route Tokens issued last year.

I must admit that nothing looks worse than a beat up slot token. No one in their right mind would collect them. However, nice about uncirculated or uncirculated slot tokens are nice to look at and collect. Try finding a really nice slot token from 1966 or 1967 that were NOT a part of a Franklin Mint set.

Slot tokens are truly a part of gaming history just as much as chips are. Nice ones are worthy of anyones effort to collect them. With their demise I hope that more collectors wIll join the ranks of token collectors.

If there are any token collectors out there that would like to exchange information and/or tokens, please contact me.
