Well, after thinking about it, You're right. My use of 300 DPI is a throwback to when I was doing desktop publishing and needed the high resolution for the printer. As our chip scans are mainly to be viewed on our monitors which don't display 300 DPI fully, the high resolution is a waste of disk space.
