NCR Banknote of the Day.....

Tonight's note comes from Scotland......

This note recognises his Open Championship victories at St Andrews and stands for what his illustrious career has meant for the game of golf in Scotland and around the world.
The note was formally unveilled at the Royal and Ancient Golf Club, site of this year's Open Championship. A three-time winner of the tournament, Nicklaus won titles at St Andrews in 1970 and 1978.

Since his first appearance in 1962 to what is likely to be his last (38th) in 2005, Jack Nicklaus has been part of The Open Championship and it’s modern day history. With all three of his Open wins coming in Scotland (Muirfield 1966 arid St Andrews 1970 & 78) Jack’s love affair with Scotland and the special place he has in the hearts of the Scottish people is well known.

The Ł5 note has been issued to mark Jack Nicklaus remarkable career and is the first time, outside of the Royal family that a commemorative note has been issued by RBS for a living person.

The Royal Bank of Scotland Group is proud to have an association with the “Golden Bear”, hailed by many as the greatest golfer ever to play the game.

The front of the Ł5 note is largely the same as the existing Royal Bank of Scotland Ł5 notes, apart from the fact the golden bear logo is shown and that the serial number only appears once. In addition all the serial numbers for this commemorative banknote commence with “JWN” short for Jack William Nicklaus.

The reverse of the banknote has been completely redesigned and shows images of Jack holding the claret jug and playing a shot during his way to victory at St Andrews in 1978.

The R&A clubhouse is depicted on the top left hand portion of the note and in the bottom left, Jack’s winning scores at St Andrews in 1970 (when he won an 18 hole play-off with Doug Sanders) and in 1978 are depicted.

On the bottom right hand side of the note, the tee at the 18th hole can be seen along with the swilken bridge.

A card of the course for the 2005 Open is also shown.

These notes have a face value of around $9.00 US and there are two price ranges I am seeing first is around $19.00 and a number of others are priced around $45.00. I suspect the only ones sellin for the higher prices are unimformed buyers. There were only 2 million printed and I expect the price to continue to climb as these notes are hoarded up around the world by collectors and golf enthusiest. ENJOY!
